Happy Birthday Sam!

Let's just keep the Kristen and Sam love fest going, shall we?

Happy birthday to my kindred spirit! Although I'm happy you are living it up in Napa, I wish we were celebrating together today!

5 Random Things that are Wonderful about Sam
  1. She's very thoughtful. When she goes places and sees things that remind her of her friends or family, she always picks up impromptu gifts. Who doesn't love that?

  2. She collects pennies. The kind you squish in those machines that have a fun design on them. This gives us the chance to travel all over in search of pennies. Including to the Stone Zoo to watch the meerkats.

  3. She loves my cooking and will rave about it. Pretty sure I could make almost anything and she'd eat it and tell me it's the best thing she's ever had. (This might be self serving, but at least it's honest)

  4. She chats with me all day at work. This gets me through the day.

  5. You may or may not know this about her, but she's super crafty. Which I LOVE!

Happy birthday my fabulous friend! Drink some wine for me! We'll celebrate when you come home!

Us in the Prudential Mall with the moose magnet that was spotted by Sam and now lives with Dane and I. You can't read it, but the little sign says "Free to a good home". He's living the life now on my fridge!

A BIRTHDAY TO CELEBRATE!

Co-founder of We Are Kindred Spirits Kristen (right) celebrates her 25th birthday today (25 on the 25th!) Happy Birthday girl! :-D

EXCLUSIVE Interview with Sam of WAKS!

People, this is big. Like bigger than the Eiffel Tower big. I was lucky enough to score an interview with THE Sam from We are Kindred Spirits. Move over Oprah! You thought your interview with Tom Cruise was a big deal. You got nothing on this!

ohmygoodnessthisissoexciting!!!!!
Sam with her super supportive hubby, Jason. Look at that fabulous hair. Looking good girlie!

Without further ado:

Me: I am here with the uber talented and oh so very beautiful and witty Sam, of the fantastically creative Etsy shop and blog: We are Kindred Spirits. So Sam, can I call you Sam?

Sam: Yes, of course you can call me Sam. I also answer to other things including, but not limited to, 'Samantha Christine' when my Mom is mad at me and feels she should use my middle name for emphasis.

Me: I'll stick with Sam, since I'm not mad at you. It's pretty obvious that you are quite crafty. Can you bring us back to when you first discovered your talent?

Sam: I feel that 'talent' is a strong word... I don't think it's a talent as much as a hobby that gets more and more consuming as time goes on. I have always liked different things like making friendship bracelets and bead looms and things like that that girls like but the first time I really got into being crafty is at a scrapbooking party that my Sister-in-Law dragged me to. I went in thinking it would be a fun afternoon with friends and I came away with an addiction (and a lighter wallet). From scrapbooking came jewelry making (which I learned from my Mom) as well as, most recently, sewing. All of which I absolutely love.
Me: I suppose hobby is a good way to look at it, though I must say, I think you are quite talented. You recently decided to share some of your handmade items with the rest of the world. Can you tell me how that came about?

Sam: Well, it all went down on Long Island on July 4th. If memory serves me correctly it went like this:
Kristen: So, I'm thinking of starting an Etsy Shop and I want you to do
it with me.

Sam: Oh my gosh! That's a great idea! I'm totally excited!
*hugs*
Sam: Seriously, I'm super excited about this!
Kristen: Me too!
*more hugs *

Kristen: That explains the "Kindred Spirits" thing then. Now this friend of yours, Kristen I believe you said, what's she like? Do you enjoy working with her?

Sam: Of course I enjoy working with her! I feel like we do an amazing job of inspiring each other to create more and more great things! We are Kindred Spirits after all!

Kristen: She seems quite lovely. Also lovely is your husband, Jason. Has he supported your craft addiction?

Sam: Yes, well.... you see, you have to know something about Jason and I. Our shopping priories differ slightly. He is more focused on paying for rent and food. Don't get me wrong, that's not a bad thing, but I am just of the mindset that paper and fabric have a greater priority and bring me much more happiness. He does completely support all of my hobbies and does an appropriate amount of oh-ing and ah-ing when I show him something new I have created. He's great. Also, 'lovely' doesn't begin to describe Kristen... I couldn't imagine leading a crafty life without her to bounce ideas off of.

Kristen: You're lucky to have someone who can appreciate the joy you get out of crafting! Has Jason ever partaken (partook?) in some crafty endeavors?

Sam: He has an interest in everything. Literally, everything, so he does have an interest in crafty things too. He appreciates the 'handmade ' quality of items and is really good at pretending to be excited when I make something new. As far as actually crafting.... His Mom taught us both to knit and he has scrapbooked a few pages in his life. One that he made was all about me and it was great. He also painted a matte for a poem that he wrote me once... I would love if he were crafty too but really I'm just appreciative that he supports my obsession.

Kristen: You two are the cutest couple. Ever. On the planet. In the universe.

Sam: Hahaha, well gee, thanks. Usually we make people gag.

Kristen: Now in the spirit of that thing from Inside the Actor's Studio that James Lipton always asks. What is your favorite word?

Sam: I'd have to say "Acorn"Because an Acorn has nothing to do with Corn! Also, it makes me think of squirrels, and I love squirrels.

Kristen: What is your least favorite word?

Sam: My least favorite word is "Moist"

Kristen: What turns you on, creatively?

Sam: Amy Butler fabrics, the smell of paper, Ali Edwards digital scrapbooking, a huge pile of photos back from the printer, finding a new amazingly cute seller on Etsy, finding someone else who shares in my obsession and appreciation for all things handmade Also, Edward Cullen... but he has nothing to do with craftiness but still.... * sigh *

Kristen: What turns you off creatively?

Sam: My BIGGEST turn off is that everything has to be done a certain way. If you think something you are creating has to be done a certain way step back and ask yourself WHY you think that. Also, scrapbookers who get frustrated when they are 'behind'. There is no 'behind' in scrapbooking... if you are recording your memories at all and having fun doing it then you are not 'behind'... you are awesome!

Kristen: What sound or noise do you love?

Sam: My favorite noise is my cats purring. Such a soothing and happy sound.

Kristen: What sound or noise do you hate?

Sam: I detest most noises.

Kristen: What profession other than your own would you like to try?

Sam: Either Librarian, Scuba Instructor, or Flight Attendant.

Kristen: What profession other than your own would you not like to try?

Sam: Any job at Chuck-E-Cheese or Restaurant Health Inspector.

Kristen: And finally, if there is a god, what would you want to hear him say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

Sam: That's a hard one.... *pause*..... If you run you can still get in on the poker game with Van Gogh and Abe Lincoln.

Kristen: Well thank you Sam for taking the time to be interviewed by WAKS!
Sam: Well, you're very welcome! that was fun!

Yea, I know. You are ALL jealous. And you should be. For more information about the co-founders of We are Kindred Spirits, stay tuned!

The Adventures Continue...

Kristen is very right... It was a FAB weekend! We always have fun together! One of the many things I love about my KS is that it doesn't matter whether we are just hanging out talking or watching a movie or going out on the town and running to catch the last T home at the end of the night... We always have a great time! Here are some more pics from the weekend:

Free samples at the Sam Adams Brewery! Us girls love us some Sam Summer.

More Sam Adams at Bella Luna. This is the pose Sam Adams does. I feel like we are naturals!

Being silly blowing on dandelions in the park.

And finally, FROSTING SHOTS! (If you like frosting you should go to SWEET and stock up... I recently brought 20 of them to a party and they were a huge hit! At a quarter a piece, how can you really go wrong? Delicious! If you don't like frosting, well, what's wrong with you anyway? Haha, just kidding... kinda. ;-)

<3 you too KS! It was a totally fab weekend and you make some awesome lasagna! :-D

Adventures of Kristen and Sam

As Kindred Spirits, we make as much time as possible to spend with each other. This past weekend we saw each other almost every day (except Friday, but we saw each other Thursday and will see each other tonight so that makes up for it). Here are a few highlights.

Thursday: Medieval Manor. This is us with the oaf. He was really irritating to me throughout the entire show, so this picture is perfect to me. It really captures the essence of the oaf. And we're holding the free glasses that Jason got for being picked on the entire time.

Saturday: I'm lacking pictures from the Brewery for some reason, but after dinner and before Pour House we decided we had to go to Sweet for some birthday cupcakes. As always, they were fantastic. Pink lemonade for Sam, and Cappuccino for me.

Oh and there were some frosting shots to be had, as well.

Then to Pour House for beers the size of your head. Seriously, look how huge those are. Summer calls for Blue Moon with an orange slice.

And also Soco lime shots. What's a birthday celebration without a shot?

And all around loveliness and happiness.

<3 you my KS! Thanks for a fab weekend.

Oh, hello!

To all the lovelies who have landed here from We Are Not Martha...

WELCOME!

Check out our shop, check out our blogs (links in the sidebar in the pretty flowers), twitter us, become our number one fan on Facebook, whatever makes you happy.

Let us know the things you like, we want to keep creating things that everyone will love as much as we do!

We're happy to have you visiting and hope you come back again soon!

This might be...

... my biggest fan. Ever. Even more than my mom.

Ok, not more than my mom. She's totally my number one fan (and I'm her number 1 fan too!)

This is Laura and I. We both attended grad school together and she discovered our shop and has since fallen in love. There she is proudly holding up her Blackberry Curve "cozy" as she calls it. It's not a sleeve, it's a cozy.

Best moment of the night might have been when Dane and I walked into the restaurant to meet our group, and I heard "Ah! My favorite person is here!". I wish everyone would do that when they saw me.

Thanks for your support Laura! We love you too!
